SPLICE BOX - STEEL BEAM JOINING DEVICE |
SPLICE BOXES are fully calculated and tested to extreme loads. They provide a simple alternative to conventional beam splices. It is essential that the installer is familiar with the following information and instructions: 1. Use SPLICE BOX with the correct beam sizes as indicated. Never exceed the safe working loads and application as specified by a qualified structural engineer. 2. Use SPLICE BOX at 1/3 of the overall beam span only. 3. Ensure full beam end contact within the sight hole. 4. Ensure bolts are uppermost. Tighten bolts "Pinch tight" using the correct spanner. Certain sizes of SPLICE BOX require an internal loose plate between the top beam flange and the bolts. If provided it must be used. Align central hole of loose plate with SPLICE BOX sight hole. (Fig 1) 5. The internal pairs of bolts will loosen when load is applied. This is a design feature as the internal bolts are present to assist in the lining-up of the beams prior to loading. 6. SPLICE BOXES are heavy. Exercise caution when lifting all heavy loads. Where possible introduce SPLICE BOX fully onto one beam end prior to hoisting. Tighten bolts temporarily to prevent accidental slipping 7. SPLICE BOXES must be used for the intended application only. Misuse or deviation from the above instructions may prove dangerous. |
