Tee Box Beams are held in alignment and beam bearings are in shear on 2no.M20 grade 8.8 bolts Box wall thickness = 12mm Allowable shear on bolts = 64.6 x 2 = 129.2 kN Bolt bearing in the box wall bolt hole = 250 N/mm2 x 12.0 x 20.0 / 1000 = 60 kN per bolt Shear to be limited to 2 x 60 kN = 120 kN Allowable tension in plate = 170 N/mm2 CSA of wall of box = 176 x 12 - (2 x 22 x 12) = 1584 mm2 Tension in plate at maximum 120 kN shear = 120 x 1000 / 1584 = 75.8 N/mm2 75.8 N/mm2 < 170 N/mm2, therefore okay Tee Box capable of maximum 120 KN applied load ____________________________________________ Inline Box As above for Tee Box regarding bolt loads. = 120 kN shear Minimum beam size to be used = 152 x 89 x 16 UB Rear wall of box therefore 90 + 12 + 12 = 114mm Allowable tension in plate = 170 N/mm2 CSA of wall of box = 114 x 12 - (2 x 22 x 12) = 840 mm2 Tension in plate at maximum 120 kN shear = 120 x 1000 / 840 = 142.8 N/mm2 142.8 N/mm2 < 170 N/mm2, therefore okay Inline Box capable of maximum 120 KN applied load ____________________________________________ Hanger Shoe Hanger shoe for timber beams only. Shear is taken in 2no.M12 grade 8.8 bolts on hanger strap, 100mm width & 6mm thickness Shoe is 3mm thickness Allowable shear on bolts = 23.3 kN Bolt bearing in 3mm wall of shoe = 250 N/mm2 x 3.0 x 12.0 / 1000 = 9 kN per bolt Shear to be limited to 2 x 9 kN = 18 kN Allowable tension in plate = 170 N/mm2 CSA of shoe wall = 100 x 3.0 - (2 x 14 x 3) = 216 mm2 Tension in plate at maximum 18 kN shear = 18 x 1000 / 216 = 83.3 N/mm2 83.3 N/mm2 < 170 N/mm2, therefore okay Hanger Shoe capable of maximum 18 KN applied load |
